Barbara Mori has been offered a rumoured sum of over Rs 10 crore for a new Bollywood film. Barbara plays the lead role opposite TV star and rising Bollywood actor Rajeev Khandelwal in an upcoming film calledFever, to be directed by debutant Rajeev Jhaveri.
The film will be her third release in India after the Hrithik Roshan-starrerKites and Spanish Beauty.
The trade naturally is surprised at the news of Barbara being paid such a whopping sum, considering Bollywood generally reserves that kind of big money only for its top-bracket of actresses.
When we quizzed Ravi Agarwal, producer of Fever, on what prompted him to shell out such a huge amount on Barbara, he insisted the Mexican starlet was well worth the amount.
“It was not an easy task to convince Barbara to sign a new film. It took us three months to get in touch with her. We were keen to cast her because she suits the role. After we finally managed to meet her and narrate the script, she agreed to be a part of the film,” Agarwal, best known as the producer of the Himesh Reshammiya-starrer Radio, said.
Sources in the industry suggested that Barbara, who has already allotted dates for Fever, will be paid her fee in dollars.
“She was excited about the fact that our film will be shot entirely in Scotland. Our unit will land in the United Kingdom soon to finalise the locations.
“So far, we have only signed Barbara and Rajeev Khandelwal. The hunt is on for an Indian girl to play a parallel female lead. We plan to go on floors in the first week of June,” Agarwal said.
The producer, however, refused to confirm the exact amount being paid to Barbara.
“I cannot comment on how much I am paying my film’s heroine. Although there have been the initial talks, we are yet to decide on the exact amount,” Agarwal added.
Agarwal, however, insisted that casting Barbara was not a risky proposition.
“Barbara is star material. It is unfortunate that her talent was not properly tapped in her first film. For that matter, even Katrina Kaif’s debut film Boom didn’t do well but that didn’t stop filmmakers from casting her in subsequent films. As a producer, one can’t afford to be afraid of taking risks,” Agarwal said.
While the film’s director Jhaveri, is best known in Bollywood circles as the screenplay writer of Kucch To Haiand Dhoondte Reh Jaoge he has also edited a film called Devaki and has made a short film titled Cold Meat.
